The Kankakee County Coroner’s office is reporting the death of a resident at Shapiro Development Center in Kankakee Tuesday. According to a press release, 22 year old Isaiah Shelton was involved in an unspecified prior incident that day and then ran away from the facility armed with a sharp object. Police located Shelton at East Ave and Walnut Street where he threatened officers with the object. Officers managed to restrain Shelton and after a short visit to the hospital he was returned to Shapiro where he immediately ran away for a second time. The coroner’s office say Shaprio staff found Shelton on the ground between two buildings a short time later. He was taken to Riverside and pronounced dead. Foul play is not suspected, it’s believed Shelton died of a heart attack. Official results of the autopsy are still pending toxicology tests.
