The latest phase in an ongoing effort to bring high speed, fiber optic internet to homes throughout Newton County has been completed. The program is a partnership between Newton County and Surf Internet. The county put up four million dollars while Surf Internet put up 6 .6 million dollars. Since the partnership was formed last fall other telecommunication companies have joined the effort and so far some 4,000 homes in underserved areas of the county have been connected at a base price of 25 dollars a month. Future expansion is planned for late this year in Goodland and Kentland.
