Manteno Mayor vetos legislation

By Callie Foster Jun 2, 2026 | 1:45 PM

Mayor Annette LaMore led off yesterday’s Village of Manteno Board meeting with two vetos on previous voted upon items. The first item was the ordinance establishing a remote attendance policy for Village Board members, citing that board members should lead by example for residents by showing up, operational risks and technical disruptions, and preservation of meeting integrity. Mayor LaMore stated that she believes that remote attendance dilutes the collaborative dynamic of the board.

The other motion vetoed was an authorization of a tree removal contract. The contract, voted on at the May 18th board meeting, was to replace 9 trees on Main Street in the amount of nine thousand three hundred and fifty dollars. Mayor LaMore believed that the expenditure was not properly vetted against budget constraints or infrastructure needs and had transparency issues with how quickly the contract was approved, and believed that the board should be looking for more cost effective alternatives.

There is no word as to if the board will bring these items back up to a vote in future meetings.
