4th Ward Alderwoman Danita Swanson was appointed Mayor Pro-Tem at last night’s Kankakee City Council Meeting. Mayor Chris Curtis and other city officials are currently down in Mexico visiting Kankakee’s sister city, Yuriria. City Manager Elizabeth Kubal says she’s been told their trip is going well so far.
Mayor Curtis said at the previous city council meeting that he and a group of delegates were going to Mexico this week to reaffirm their sister city relationship that was first put in place by Mayor Don Green in 2004. It’s believed that a large portion of Kankakee’s Hispanic population is from that region in Mexico. The trip was paid for by Yuriria.
